Homeless Prevention Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Homeless Prevention Bill 2018 would add a clearer legal definition of who counts as being at risk of homelessness. It focuses on people who have received an eviction notice, are likely to lose their accommodation within 60 days, or face serious housing problems such as insecure tenancies, domestic violence, unfit housing, or severe overcrowding. It would also let local authorities offer free advice, information and support services to people at risk, and allow them to draw up prevention plans up to 60 days before someone becomes homeless. The aim is to help people keep their homes or find safer accommodation earlier, before they reach crisis point.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Housing Act 1988 to provide a legal definition of persons at risk of homelessness and to give the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government and local authorities the power to provide suchs persons with supports to prevent them from becoming homeless.
