Data Sharing and Governance Bill 2018

Sets out rules for how public bodies can share information, including personal data, so people and businesses do not have to give the same details repeatedly and public services can work more efficiently. It also adds safeguards, including written sharing agreements, oversight by a new Data Governance Board, and stronger rights for people to see, correct or challenge data held about them. In addition, it creates base registries for trusted official data, covers public service pension and business information, and aims to improve transparency and consistency across the public sector.

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the regulation of the sharing of information, including personal data, between public bodies; to provide for the regulation of the management of information by public bodies; to provide for the establishment of base registries; to provide for the collection of public service information; to establish the Data Governance Board; to amend the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005; and to provide for related matters.
