No. 68 of 2018

Civil Liability (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2018

Public bill · Private Member · Presented

The bill would require hospitals and other health services to tell patients and their families when a patient safety incident happens, instead of leaving disclosure voluntary. It would also require any later information about that incident to be passed on to the patient as soon as reasonably possible. Its purpose is to make honesty and transparency in healthcare a legal duty, so patients are better informed and public trust is strengthened.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for mandatory open disclosure of a patient safety incident, to introduce a mandatory requirement that the patient be provided with any additional information which later becomes available and for that purpose to amend the Civil Liability (Amendment) Act 2017 and to provide for related matters.
