Traveller Culture and History in Education Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Recognised schools would be required to help pupils learn about the culture and history of the Traveller community. It would change the general aims of the education law so that schools are expected to promote understanding of Traveller identity as part of education. That matters because it puts Traveller culture and history more clearly into mainstream schooling, which could help challenge ignorance and prejudice.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for recognised schools to promote a knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of the Traveller community; for that purpose to amend the Education Act 1998; and to provide for related matters.
