Local Government (Restoration of Town Councils) Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Restores town councils, which were abolished in 2014, and sets out how new ones would be created again for built-up areas with at least 5,000 people and a clear town centre. A Local Government Commission would review census results, decide which places qualify, set boundaries, and arrange the first elections. It also brings back the old legal framework for town councils and says the new councils should work within existing public money and resources.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to restore town councils for the purposes of local government, and to provide for related matters.
