Raises the compulsory retirement age to 70 for most public servants who were recruited before 1 April 2004, and lets them keep building up pension benefits for service between 65 and 70, up to the normal maximum of 40 years. It excludes groups that already retire earlier for operational or separate legal reasons, such as Gardaí, prison officers, firefighters, Defence Forces members, the President, Oireachtas Members and judges, as well as people who had already retired and been rehired. It also gives the Minister power to raise the retirement age again in future, up to 75.

Bill entitled an Act to raise the age at which certain public servants are required to retire; to confer power on the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to raise that age by order; for those purposes to amend the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004 and certain other enactments; and to provide for related matters.
