Insurance (Life Assurance and Life Insurance) (Amendment) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Changes the insurance rules so insurers cannot refuse to pay out on a life insurance or life assurance policy, including a death benefit, simply because the insured person died by suicide, once the policy has been in force for at least 12 months. It matters because it would protect families from losing cover in that situation and make sure long-standing policies are treated as paid-up claims rather than being denied.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to prohibit insurers, insurance providers, brokers or other such undertakings from failing or refusing to make payments under life insurance or assurance policies, including death benefit, where the person insured dies by suicide.
