Civil Liability (Schools) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Sets clear legal protection for recognised schools against being sued over injuries to students from accidents on school grounds, as long as the school has adequate teacher supervision and meets the relevant safety and building rules. It also protects teachers and other authorised school staff or volunteers when they give first aid, arrange medical help, or transport an injured student for treatment, unless their conduct amounts to gross negligence or bad faith. The aim is to give schools certainty while still allowing ordinary school activities and recreation to continue safely.
Formal long title
