Broadcasting (Amendment) (Protection of Journalism) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would change broadcasting law so media contracts or licences could not be used to block a National Union of Journalists member from working in communications media just because of their job title, employer, or employment status. Its aim is to stop journalists being treated unfairly or excluded from work because of their professional affiliation or status, as explained on the memorandum page.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Broadcasting Act 2009 to make it a breach of contract or licence under the Act to prohibit a member of the National Union of Journalists from communications media for reason or reasons of occupation, employer, or employment status.
