Civil Registration Bill 2019
Public bill · Government · Presented
Updates Ireland’s civil registration rules so birth and death records can be handled more fairly and accurately. It makes it easier to register children born through donor-assisted reproduction, allows both partners in a same-sex female relationship to be recorded on a birth registration, and reduces the difficulty for a mother in challenging the automatic assumption that her estranged husband is the father. It also lets family members play a bigger role in registering some deaths, and adds extra details to death records for better official statistics and record-sharing.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Civil Registration Act 2004; to amend the Civil Registration (Amendment) Act 2014; and to provide for related matters.
