Road Traffic (Bus and Cycle Lane) (Amendment) Bill 2019

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The measure would let footage or other recordings from safety cameras, including CCTV on vehicles such as buses, be used to prove people have entered or parked illegally in bus lanes or cycle tracks. Its aim is to make these offences easier to detect and enforce, since drivers in bus and cycle lanes can delay buses and put cyclists at risk. It matters because stronger enforcement could improve public transport flow and make cycling safer.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Road Traffic Act 2010 to make provision for the use of digitally recorded data from electronic devices of footage and/or other readings from road traffic safety cameras/closed circuit television cameras as evidence of the unlawful entry into or parking in a bus lane or cycle track and to provide for related matters.
