Domestic Violence (No-contact order) (Amendment) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would let a court make a no-contact order stopping someone from contacting another person, including by phone, text or online, where harassment has happened at least twice and is causing alarm or distress. It would extend protections already used in domestic violence cases, but this order would not be limited to family members or people in a relationship. It also gives Gardaí arrest powers for breaches, allows Tusla to apply in some cases, and sets rules on court reporting, cross-examination and the reasons courts must give for their decisions.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Domestic Violence Act 2018 to provide for no-contact orders.
