Public Sector (Plain Language) Bill 2019

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Public bodies would have to write published information in clear, simple language instead of using hard-to-follow jargon. They would need to appoint someone to oversee this work, explain it to staff, publish plain-language guidance and progress reports online, and start using plain writing in new or heavily revised public documents. The point is to make State information and services easier to understand and use, especially for people with literacy or numeracy difficulties.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to improve access to public sector information and services by requiring plain writing in published documents; and to provide for connected matters.
