Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions (Amendment) Bill 2019
Public bill · Government · Presented
Extends health supports and free counselling already available under the 2015 redress scheme to another group of women who worked in Magdalen laundries but lived in nearby linked institutions. It also makes sure lump-sum payments under the restorative justice scheme are ignored when assessing a person’s means for nursing home support, so those payments do not reduce access to that assistance. The measure is technical, but it matters because it widens recognition and practical support for women who were left out of the earlier arrangement.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Act 2015; to amend the Nursing Homes Support Scheme Act 2009; and to provide for related matters.
