Social Welfare Bill 2019
Public bill · Government · Presented
Introduces a new social welfare payment for people who are self-employed and have stopped trading, giving them an income safety net similar to existing jobseeker support. It also changes the rules so people can build up qualifying contributions across both employed and self-employed work, and confirms the tax treatment of the new payment. The change matters because it extends protection to business owners and freelancers who previously had less cover if their work ended.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Social Welfare Acts, to amend the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997; and to provide for related matters.
