Citizens’ Assemblies Bill 2019
Public bill · Government · Presented
Allows information from the electoral register to be used to pick Irish citizens at random for membership of certain citizens’ assemblies set up by the Government and approved by the Oireachtas. It matters because it gives a legal basis for assembling representative groups of people to examine important public issues and make recommendations. It also covers the usual start-up details and says any costs will be paid by the Department of the Taoiseach.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the access and use of information contained in the register of electors established under the Electoral Act 1992 for the purpose of selecting citizens of Ireland to be members of certain citizens’ assemblies; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
