Taisceadán (Valuable Property Register) Bill 2019

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Would create a national register of valuable personal property, run by An Garda Síochána, so owners can record details and mark items in a way that helps identify them later. The aim is to make stolen property easier to trace for crime investigations and to support the return of recovered items to their rightful owners or, where appropriate, repatriation. The Minister for Justice would oversee the system and be able to make rules on how it works.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the establishment of Taisceadán, a Register of items of personal property to be managed by An Garda Síochána to assist in the identification of items of personal property, for the purposes of investigation of crime, for the repatriation of items of property and to provide for related matters.
