Blasphemy (Abolition of Offences and Related Matters) Bill 2019
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure would remove blasphemy and blasphemous libel from Irish law, so they would no longer be offences. It would also strip out old references to blasphemy from the film censorship laws and repeal the blasphemy-related parts of the Defamation Act 2009. According to the explanatory memorandum, it has no financial cost and matters because it clears outdated offence rules from the statute book.
