Housing (Regulation of Approved Housing Bodies) Bill 2019

Public bill · Government · Presented

The measures set up an independent regulator for approved housing bodies, which are the organisations that provide and manage much of the State’s social housing. It would make those bodies register, follow standards on governance, money, property and tenant management, and submit to checks, investigations and compliance plans where needed. It also gives the regulator powers to act quickly to protect tenants and housing assets, including seeking court orders, while giving bodies a route to appeal decisions. This matters because it aims to protect public investment in social housing and give tenants, investors and the public greater confidence that the sector is well run.
