Plain Language Bill 2019

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Plain Language Bill 2019 would require Government Departments and State bodies to use clear, concise and well-organised plain English in public documents, forms, websites and other information they give to the public. It would also ask those bodies to draw up plain-language guidelines, put them into practice, and report publicly on how well they are doing. The aim is to make official information easier for people to understand and use, which would improve access, accountability and trust.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to ensure that all information for the public from government and State bodies is written and presented in plain language.
