Equitable Beef Pricing Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Would require beef buyers to pay farmers at least a minister-set minimum price, and that minimum could not be below Teagasc’s most recent average break-even cost. It would also stop businesses from giving cattle over 30 months of age worse treatment than younger cattle, and it would end the 30-month rule. The aim is to give beef farmers a fairer return and make beef farming more financially sustainable.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to ensure the provision of an equitable price for beef to farmers operating in that sector in order to ensure that it is a sustainable means for them to earn a livelihood; to abolish the 30 month rule concerning cattle; and to provide for related matters.
