Harmful Plastics (Prohibition) Bill 2019

Aims to cut down harmful plastic in everyday products and packaging. It would ban the sale of consumer packaging that contains certain plastics, stop the sale of cosmetic products with microbeads, and encourage the use of biodegradable materials instead. It would also let the Minister make supporting rules and give the Environmental Protection Agency a role in monitoring how harmful plastics are used in making, distributing and selling consumer products in Ireland.

Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the sale of consumer goods packaging containing harmful plastics, to prohibit the sale of consumer products containing microbeads, to promote the use of biodegradable materials in the packaging of consumer products, to enable the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment to make for that purpose certain regulations and to permit the Environmental Protection Agency to prepare programmes for monitoring the use of harmful plastics in the manufacture, distribution and sale of consumer products in the State.
