Housing (Homeless Housing Assistance Payment) (Amendment) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require local authorities to start helping eligible families with homeless housing assistance as soon as they receive a valid notice ending a tenancy, instead of waiting until the family is already without housing. Its aim is to let people look for a new home earlier, with state support, and reduce the risk of homelessness. The explanatory memorandum says there would be no extra cost to the Exchequer.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 to introduce a new statutory obligation on local authorities to assist eligible households directly after a notice of tenancy termination has been issued.
