Broadcasting (Television Licence Fees Recovery) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would let the TV licence issuing body ask broadcasters and subscription TV providers for relevant customer data so it can cross-check lists and identify households that may have a TV but no licence. Its aim is to reduce licence fee evasion and improve collection at a time when public broadcasting funding was under pressure, with the explanatory note saying more efficient recovery could bring in much-needed extra revenue for RTÉ and other public service broadcasters.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the provision of data by television broadcasting service providers for the purpose of assisting in the recovery of television licence fees; and to provide for connected matters.
