Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Bill 2019
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A change to Ireland’s fiscal rules would let the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council examine the budget plans of opposition parties before each Budget and say whether those plans would support careful economic and budget management. It matters because it would add an independent check on parties’ spending and tax promises, giving the public a clearer view of how realistic and responsible those proposals are.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2012 to allow the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council to review the policies and proposals of opposition political parties in advance of each Budget and report on whether their approach is conducive to prudent economic and budgetary management.
