Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2020

Changes Ireland’s fraud and theft laws to better protect EU money and bring Irish law into line with an EU rule on fraud against the European Union’s finances. It adds new offences for fraud affecting EU financial interests and for misappropriation, extends responsibility to companies, gives Irish courts wider reach over some cases, and updates related confiscation rules. It also removes some older provisions in the 2001 Act.

Bill entitled an Act to give further effect to Directive (EU) 2017/1371 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 July 2017 on the fight against fraud to the Union's financial interests by means of criminal law; for that purpose to amend the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 and other enactments; and to provide for related matters.
