Defence (Amendment) Bill 2020
Public bill · Government · Presented
Updates defence law in a few targeted ways. It would let the Minister for Defence formally give limited day-to-day operational control of Irish troops serving in international missions to the mission commander, while keeping the existing Irish command structure in place. It would also remove outdated references to enlisting people under 18, make it easier to re-enlist experienced former soldiers for specific roles, and tidy up court-martial appeal and other obsolete provisions.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Defence Act 1954, the Defence (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1960, the Defence (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1979 and the Defence (Amendment) Act 2006; and to provide for related matters.
