Equitable Beef Pricing Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine could set minimum prices that beef buyers must pay farmers when buying for business, with the rule kept in force only if the Oireachtas renews it. The bill also tackles the long-standing “30-month rule” for cattle, aiming to ease the pressure it puts on farmers selling older cattle while still allowing some different treatment for animals over that age. In plain terms, it tries to make beef farming more viable by protecting farm incomes and giving farmers a fairer return.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to ensure the provision of an equitable price for beef to farmers operating in that sector in order to ensure that it is a sustainable means for them to earn a livelihood; and to provide for related matters.
