Sick Leave and Parental Leave (Covid-19) Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
It would give workers a legal right to paid sick leave after their first four weeks in a job, with pay at their normal rate, up to 30 days in any 12 months. It would also widen force majeure leave so parents or adoptive parents can take paid time off when Covid-19 measures keep their child’s school or pre-school closed, or otherwise stop the child attending, and the parent has to stay at home to care for them. It also makes sure employers cannot use contracts to cut these rights back, while allowing more generous workplace arrangements.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for an entitlement for employees to paid leave during periods of illness or injury; to amend the entitlement to leave on grounds of force majeure for parents whose children are unable to attend school or a pre-school service by reason of Covid-19 measures; and to provide for connected matters.
