National Screening Advisory Committee Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
It would put the National Screening Advisory Committee on a formal legal footing and give it a clear role in advising the Health Minister on screening programmes in Ireland. The committee would be asked to review and recommend how newborn bloodspot screening should be expanded, report on its work each year, and explain publicly if the Minister rejects its advice. Why it matters: earlier and broader screening can catch serious but treatable conditions in babies sooner, saving lives and avoiding more costly treatment later.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the establishment of a body, to be known in the Irish language as an Coiste Comhairleach Náisiúnta um Braitheoireacht or in the English language as the National Screening Advisory Committee, to advise on the operation of health screening programmes in the State and to provide for related matters.
