Ministerial Power (Repeal) (Ban Co-Living and Build to Rent) Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would remove a power in planning law that lets the Minister support rules for co-living and build-to-rent housing. It would also wipe out the parts of the 2018 apartment design guidelines that deal with those housing types. In plain terms, it aims to stop these kinds of developments being backed by national planning policy, which could affect how apartments are designed and what kinds of rental housing are built.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000 and to repeal the Build to Rent and Shared Accommodation sections of the following guidelines issued to planning authorities thereafter, namely Sustainable Urban Housing: Design Standards for New Apartments, March 2018.
