Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2020
Public bill · Government · Presented
Sets out a wide range of legal changes to help Ireland adjust to Brexit after the transition period. It keeps practical arrangements going for people and businesses that rely on the UK — including health care, social welfare, childcare, travel, pensions, taxes, customs, shipping, transport, insolvency, extradition, immigration, and recognition of UK divorces — while also protecting the Common Travel Area and the all-island economy. It also creates fallback rules where UK-based systems or providers need continued access to Irish markets and services, and adds powers for the State to manage new border and customs checks. Overall, it is meant to prevent disruption, protect people’s rights, and keep key services and trade working smoothly.
