Organisation of Working Time (Amendment) (Right to Disconnect) Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would give workers a legal right to switch off from work-related emails, texts and calls outside normal working hours. It would require employers to set out a clear “right to disconnect” policy, agreed with staff and, where relevant, trade unions, including when employees are not expected to respond. Its aim is to reduce stress, curb the “always on” culture, and support healthier, more productive working lives.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 to establish procedures for an employee’s right to disconnect from work-related emails, texts, and calls outside of working hours, and to provide for related matters.
