Organisation of Working Time (Domestic Violence Leave) Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Provides a new paid leave entitlement for employees who need time off because of domestic violence, and sets out how that leave can be taken, paid, and protected. It also extends job protection by updating unfair dismissals law so a worker cannot be unfairly dismissed for using this leave, and makes related changes to other employment laws. This matters because it gives people facing domestic abuse a lawful, paid way to deal with urgent safety, legal, housing, and medical needs without risking their job.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for a period of paid leave as a consequence of domestic violence and for that purpose to amend the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997, to extend as a consequence the protection against unfair dismissals conferred by the Unfair Dismissals Acts 1977 to 2015 and to provide for the consequential amendment of certain other enactments, and to provide for related matters.
