Deportation Moratorium (Covid-19) Bill 2020
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would stop deportations and forced removals from Ireland while Covid-19 restrictions are in place because of the public health emergency. Any deportation or removal orders already made, or made before the emergency period starts, would be put on hold until three months after the emergency ends. It applies across the main immigration and international protection rules, so it would cover different types of cases in the same way. The aim is to reduce travel during the pandemic and avoid sending people into situations that could worsen the spread of the virus.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the deportation of persons from the State during the public health emergency posed by the spread of Covid-19 and to provide for related matters.
