Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person (Amendment) (Stalking) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Introduces a specific criminal offence of stalking, covering repeated, unwanted behaviour driven by fixation or obsession that causes alarm, distress, or harm. It would add this offence to Ireland’s existing law on non-fatal offences against the person, giving Gardaí and prosecutors a clearer tool to deal with stalking as something distinct from ordinary harassment. It matters because stalking is often hidden, persistent, and deeply harmful, and a dedicated offence can make cases easier to report and prosecute.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for a specific offence of stalking characterised by repeated, unwanted behaviour that occurs as a result of fixation or obsession and causes alarm, distress or harm to the victim and to provide for related matters.
