Residential Tenancies (Tenants' Rights) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Measures to give renters more security and stronger rights. It would set clearer model tenancy terms, limit deposits to no more than one month’s rent, stop blanket bans on drying clothes outside or keeping pets without a good reason, and make it harder to end a tenancy just because a property is being sold or the landlord wants it back for a wide range of family members. It also extends rent-pressure protections, strengthens registration rules, and adds penalties for landlords who fail to register or update tenancies.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Acts 2004 to 2020 so as to provide for greater security of tenure and rent certainty for tenants, and to provide for connected matters.
