Local Government (Amendment) (Transparency in Allocation of Funding) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Requires the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to review, at least every two years, the current and future funding needs of local authorities and to take account of demographic changes when deciding how money from the Local Government Fund is shared out. The Minister would also have to place a report on the review, along with the proposed and current funding allocations for each local authority, before both Houses of the Oireachtas. The aim is to make local government funding decisions clearer and more transparent, and to show more plainly how changes in population and local needs affect what each council receives.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Local Government Act 1998 and provide for a statutory review of the demographics and socio-economic profile of each local authority in order to assess required funding and determine funding allocations.
