Registration of Wills Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a public register for wills so that, while a person is alive, they or their solicitor can record where the will is kept and who holds it. The aim is to make wills easier to find after death, reduce the chance that they are overlooked, and keep the details private until the person dies. It also updates the civil registration system to set up how the register would be run, who can access it, and how mistakes or refusals to register would be handled.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the extension of the Civil Registration Service to the registration of certain information regarding wills and for those purposes to revise the law relating to the Civil Registration Service and to provide for related matters.
