Companies (Emission Reporting) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require companies operating in Ireland, starting with larger firms, to publish audited yearly figures on the greenhouse gases caused by their activities, with smaller companies brought in over time. It also aims to push companies to reduce those emissions, create offences for false or missing reports, and let the authorities fine or prosecute non-compliance. It would also add these reporting duties into wider climate and company law, so emissions become part of directors’ annual reporting.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to require companies to make annual public disclosures in relation to the greenhouse gas emissions caused by their activities, to cause decreases in such emissions over time, to amend the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and the Companies Act 2014, and to provide for related matters.
