Irish Corporate Governance (Gender Balance) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposed law would require companies covered by the Companies Act 2014 to improve gender balance on their boards, with at least 33% of each gender within one year and 40% within three years. Companies would have to report yearly to the Corporate Enforcement Authority on their boardroom gender balance, and those that meet the target could get a certificate of compliance. If a company falls short, it must explain why, and a court could be asked to order compliance if that explanation is not good enough.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make provision for the regulation of gender balance on the boards and governing councils of corporate bodies and related matters.
