Flood Insurance Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A bill about flood insurance would stop insurers from refusing cover, or charging unfairly high prices, to homeowners and businesses in areas marked as flood-risk by the Office of Public Works. It would let affected customers complain to the Financial Services Ombudsman, and give that office and the Central Bank powers to investigate, order insurers to change their practices, and enforce compliance. The aim is to make property insurance fairer for people and businesses in places that have already had flood protection work done.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for fairness in the market for property insurance, and to provide for related matters.
