It would let the Health Information and Quality Authority inspect certain emergency homeless accommodation and asylum seeker accommodation, including family hubs, hostels, reception centres and direct provision centres. It would also update the Health Act so the authority can set and enforce standards for these places, and allow relevant ministers to require investigations where needed. The aim is to improve safety, quality and oversight in accommodation that is often used by some of the most vulnerable people.
