Protection of Private Residences (Against Targeted Picketing) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would make it an offence to organise or take part in a targeted protest or picket within 200 metres of a private home. It defines “protest” very broadly, covering efforts to influence people, repeated occupation of space, interference, intimidation, harassment, and even persuasion or expression of opinion. A first offence would bring a fine, while repeat offences could lead to a larger fine, up to 12 months in prison, or both. It matters because it aims to protect people’s homes and family life from protest activity directed at where they live, while still leaving protests possible elsewhere.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make provision for the prevention of the targeted picketing of a private residence and to provide for related matters.
