Rural Equality Bill 2021

Aimed at making government decisions fairer for people in rural areas, this measure would require public bodies to think about how new or existing policies might affect rural communities and to look for ways to reduce disadvantage. It would also require rural impact assessments for measures likely to have a major social or economic effect on rural Ireland, with ministerial guidelines, approval of assessment schemes, and an annual report to the Oireachtas.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide that regard be had by public bodies to the desirability of reducing socio-economic and other inequalities suffered by those in rural Ireland, to provide for the carrying out of rural impact assessments in respect of measures that are likely to have a significant socio-economic impact or effect on rural Ireland and to provide for related matters.
