Health Insurance (International Students) (Amendment) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Changes the health insurance rules so some international students who are not usually living in Ireland would no longer count as people who must be covered by a standard health insurance contract. It also defines who counts as an “international student,” including certain short-term students, students with specific immigration permissions, and some recent graduates on a job-seeker permission. The aim is to narrow the insurance requirement for this group, which could affect what cover students need to buy and how insurers price student policies.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Health Insurance Act 1994 (as amended) to introduce a new definition of a health insurance contract to that contained in Section 2 of the Principal Act so as to exclude international students who are not ordinarily resident in Ireland; and to provide for related matters.
