Adoption (Information) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The measure would give adopted adults unconditional access to their birth certificates and to the record that links their adoption entry with their original birth registration. In practical terms, it would make it much easier for adopted people to find out information about their birth and family origins. It matters because it removes a barrier that can keep people from learning basic facts about their identity and background.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for improved information access for adopted persons in relation to their birth, for that purpose to amend the Adoption Act 2010 so as to provide for access by adult adopted persons to their entry in the index maintained by an tArd-Chláraitheoir of connections between entries in the Adopted Children Register and the register of births, and to provide for connected matters.
