Residential Tenancies Bill 2021

Public bill · Government · Presented

Extends Covid-era protections for tenants who have fallen into rent arrears and may lose their homes, keeping those extra safeguards in place until 12 July 2021. It also maintains the ban on rent increases for the affected tenancies during the relevant period and makes the temporary eviction rules work properly alongside existing emergency restrictions. This matters because it gives vulnerable tenants more time and protection while balancing landlords’ rights.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to extend the emergency period specified in the Planning and Development, and Residential Tenancies, Act 2020; for that purpose to amend that Act and the Residential Tenancies Act 2020; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
