Road Traffic (Amendment) (Electric Scooter Trials) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Allows time-limited pilot schemes for electric scooters to be run through approved rental systems, with the Transport Minister setting the rules for how they can be used during the trial period. The aim is to test scooters in a controlled way rather than letting everyone use private scooters freely, with a focus on safety, speed limits, approved standards, and where they can and cannot be ridden. It matters because electric scooters are becoming popular but were illegal on Irish roads at the time, and the trial would help decide how they could fit into transport safely.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make provision for time-limited trials of electric scooters through approved rental schemes and to require the Minister for Transport to regulate their use for the period of the trials, and to provide for related matters.
