Firearms and Offensive Weapons (Amendment) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would raise the maximum prison sentence for people convicted of carrying a knife or other offensive weapon in a public place with the intent to injure, disable, or intimidate someone. Its aim is to discourage knife carrying, responding to a rise in knife seizures and recent serious stabbings, including a fatal one, especially involving young people.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990 by increasing the maximum sentence that can be imposed for the possession of a knife to cause injury to, incapacitate or intimidate any person.
